Cool and Easy Tools for Your Website

There are several cool (and useful!) things that you can put on your web pages — they are easy to do, and all are free.

(Since these are online tools, you will need to be viewing this page online to see most of them!)

clustrmap

what is it?

It's a page counter on a world map.

here's how

Just register at Clustrmaps.com: Give them your website url and your email addresss. They will email you some code to paste into your web page.

  1. Go to Clustrmaps.com
  2. Click on "Register to get one..." on the home page.
  3. Follow the instructions in the yellow box!

what is it?

It shows what country is looking at your web page, and where they found link to your page.

neocounter

   

what is it?

It's a display of who has visited your website, showing flags for their countries. They give you some javascript code that you put on your web page. The javascript calls a flash movie from the neocounter side that shows the visitors info.

here's how

Just register at NeoCounter.com:

  1. Go to NeoCounter.com
  2. Click on the "Go" button for the NeoCounter.
  3. Fill out a form with your email address and make a password.
  4. Then log in to customize the counter (many options!) and get the code to paste in your page.

weather

what is it?

Show current weather for your area — or for anywhere in the world.

here's how

Just go to AccuWeather.com: and get the code to paste into your web page.

  1. Go to AccuWeather.com/downloadcenter.asp
  2. Click on "Free Sign Up" blue button for "Free Weather for you Site or Blog"
  3. Follow the instructions.
  4. Copy the code and paste where you want to see the weather on your web page.

I put a very simple one for this page, but they have many other choices, with five-day forecasts, and more!

what is it?

A web service that automatically translates your web pages.

what is it?

Have you noticed how a lot of websites have a little image in the address bar? Look at the address bar of this page and you should see one.

here's how

  1. You make a small image in png format, 16x16 pixels in size.
  2. Then upload to to one of the nice websites which will convert it to ico format:

    You can even upload it to htmlkit right here:

Get an account on PayPal (go to PayPal.com and follow the instructions:
Then log in to your account, click on the "Merchant Tools" tab, scroll down to "donations", and follow the instructions there.

what is it?

Displaying a video from another website (such as YouTube, Veoh, or Google) on your own web page.

here's how

Just register at YouTube.com or Veoh.com or video.google.com ... or all of them!
They will explain how to upload videos, and how to make a link on your website to display any video from their site.

what is it?

Playing sound (speech, music, etc.) from your website on your own web page.

why do it this way?

You can use that embed code and tell it to embed windows media player or real audio player ... but your audience may not have that software. With this Odeo flash player, everyone can listen to your video without any special plug-ins for their browser.
