How to charge for web development
People ask me this, so i am making a FAQ for it.
The answer is:
Actually — i wouldn't know! Really!
-
I've never been in the web-development business.
I always worked for companies and got paid by the hour.
-
I haven't worked for money for 9 years. So i'm just not
in the money world any more at all.
-
Plus —
pricing would be different in India than the US, where i am from.
However — I do have some ideas for you, since
i do know
the principles of charging for work.
-
I did work as a forestry contractor for many years.
So i learned how to charge for jobs.
-
And i have read some websites
that explain about charging for web development.
Here is how to do it:
-
Go to websites that do web developing, and see what they charge.
-
Go to Google, and search for things like
web development pricing or
web development rates .
-
Contact web developers and pretend you are a customer,
and ask them questions such as what kinds of websites,
and how long it would take, and the cost.
Then
-
Adjust your charge according to your experience,
your skills, how big and how complex is the site you are building.
-
Also adjust your charge according to how much you need the job.
When we are just starting out, we charge lower,
so that we can get some experience.
A very good website about the business of web development,
(as well as lot of great tech info), is
